Owner Melinda Metten opened CrossFit Bangor in June 2011 so she could have a place to work out with her friends. Little did she know, her whole life was about to change. CrossFit Bangor’s reputation spread like wildfire, and so did membership at her box.
Melinda does it all, not just at the gym, but in life. Aside from owning a gym, she is currently working full time as a boom operator for the “Maniacs” Air Force National Guard and is a 17 year retired firefighter. Her unstoppable drive is truly contagious, and her passion for helping others maximize their potential is remarkable. ‘Just start. Just get through the door.’ Her perspective on life acknowledges that there will be good days and challenging ones; that’s why she emphasizes that discipline is your best friend, especially when motivation tends to waver during difficult times.
Being strong and healthy is truly liberating. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals is a powerful experience that fosters accountability. This is what we do for one another in our community—we lift each other up. Our community is incredibly supportive, always showing care and encouragement for each member. Together, we thrive!” – Mel

Paramedic/FF
Started CrossFit in 2011 the year CFB was born. Karen was a member for three years before becoming a coach in 2014. She joined CrossFit to become more physically fit, motivated by her new job as a firefighter paramedic she soon found much more at CFB. Realizing it was more about investing in herself becoming not only stronger physically and mentally but improving her overall health.
Coaching at CrossFit Bangor has allowed her to help others find the strength and potential in themselves. Her favorite part about CrossFit Bangor is not only the success people find here in fitness, but the amazing support of the community that it has created. The friends made here are for life. Favorite lift would have to be the Snatch. A technical lift that is rewarding to watch others succeed at. Karen loves being outdoors and will move a barbell outside any chance she gets. Active recovery days are filled with hiking, fishing, hunting, and camping. She also loves food and loves to cook!!!
Jared has been interested in moving and expressing the human body since his college career where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Exercise Science. At the University of Maine he was introduced to CrossFit. Being interested in moving and mixed martial arts he was in good shape but was humbled quickly by the intensity while also being impressed with the community aspect. His passion for exceeding his potential turned into helping others express their potential.
Jared is happy being in a gym but also loves hiking, BBQ food, coffee/pastry spots, and having a good time with friends and family. He’s always willing to listen and help others when needed.
Cory is an Orono native and UMaine graduate. As a kid he played every sport he could, and played college rugby. He started CrossFit in 2018 in an attempt to get in shape to play “Old Boys” rugby and quickly decided to just make that his sport instead. He began coaching in 2020, and loves being able to share is enthusiasm and knowledge with others. He joined CF Bangor in 2022 in order to further challenge himself, and couldn’t be happier. He is proud to be a part of this community both as a member and coach.
Most importantly, Cory is Meg’s husband and workout partner, and Ella’s father (butler). Outside of CrossFit he loves watching rugby, listening to 90s hip hop (Dad Rap), and being outside paddle boarding, snowboarding, or biking.

Kevin is known at CrossFit Bangor as “The WOD Whisperer.” He got introduced to CrossFit in 2008 when he was at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was instantly addicted. He’s always been passionate about fitness, and CrossFit was a perfect fit for him. Kevin says the best thing about coaching is seeing his members’ confidence shoot up when they get closer and closer to reaching their goals.
His favorite quote is: “Most men stop when they begin to tire. Good men go until they think they are going to collapse. But the very best know the mind tires before the body and push themselves further and further beyond all limits. Only when all these limits are shattered can the unattainable be reached.”-Mark Mysynk

Firefighter/Paramedic
Alex started at CrossFit Bangor in 2016 as a way to get stronger for his job. He is currently a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Bangor Fire Department as well as a flight medic with the Maine Army National Guard. Alex enjoys throwing down in a work out, and hanging out with the amazing CFB community! When not at the gym, Alex can be found either at the firehouse, tending to his goats and sheep or hanging out with his wife and two daughters.
Carrie was introduced to Crossfit and Olympic Lifting in 2012 while working as a business manager and group fitness instructor for a gym in D.C. Seeking challenge and adventure, she ditched office life for the open seas and served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician in the U.S. Navy for 6 years. When not underwater, Carrie spent that time honing her expertise in the snatch and clean and jerk and earning an M.S. in Clinical Psychology: Applied Research.
She uses her background in psychology to connect with people through fitness and believes exercise should be fun 99% of the time. She earned her USA Weightlifting L1 certification in 2023 and is always seeking further education. When not in the gym, Carrie can be found walking her dogs, baking, and planning her next home project.

Most of Caleb’s life has been playing sports and competing. When that all ended, he did not realize how much he needed that feeling of physically striving to get better at something. Caleb tried all kinds of workout plans and routines with the best of efforts and intentions but could never quite replicate what he missed. Enter Crossfit Bangor. Caleb joined the gym in February, 2015 after seeing the Crossfit Games being played on a TV while out at a restaurant. He immediately knew that he had found something he needed to be a part of.
Fast forward to today, Caleb is still excited by the idea of going to work out. The atmosphere at CFB is something special that cannot be replicated in any gym and he absolutely loves that there is always something he needs to get better at. His favorite style of workout is a long chipper that requires you to disappear mentally for a while. As a coach, Caleb has a passion to help people understand and overcome the psychological and mental challenges faced when they attempt to physically push themselves.
When he is not at the gym, Caleb enjoys mountain biking and watching The Office for the 100th time and is a proud father to a strong willed, 5yr old girl.
