Melinda

Owner

CF-L2

Owner Melinda Metten opened CrossFit Bangor in June 2011 so she could have a place to work out with her friends. Little did she know, her whole life was about to change. CrossFit Bangor’s reputation spread like wildfire, and so did membership at her box.

Melinda does it all, not just at the gym, but in life. Aside from owning a gym, she is currently working full time as a boom operator for the “Maniacs” Air Force National Guard, and is a 17year retired firefighter. Her unstoppable drive and work ethic mean she’s not good at hiding her disappointment when she sees other people not living up to their potential. “I can’t stand when people avoid adversity all their life and constantly sell themselves short.”

Michele found CrossFit in 2012 and for most of her adult life has taught group exercise classes in a wide variety of formats in gyms across the world, and while this has brought her great joy and satisfaction, it wasn’t always a challenge to her physically. After her first CrossFit WOD, she knew she was hooked. Not only was she able to practice a wide variety of skills, she is pushed to her limits on a weekly basis. But the real reason she continues to CrossFit is the community, friendships and support she have found at every box  she’s been to around the world, and CF Bangor is no exception. Currently she holds a CF Level 2 certification and also teaches Yoga at CrossFit Bangor, outside the gym doors she is a math professor, Navy wife and proud dog mom.  Michele also loves to cook and believes nutrition should be the foundation to any fitness program.

KEVIN

Kevin is known at CrossFit Bangor as “The WOD Whisperer.” He got introduced to CrossFit in 2008 when he was at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was instantly addicted. He’s always been passionate about fitness, and CrossFit was a perfect fit for him. Kevin says the best thing about coaching is seeing his members’ confidence shoot up when they get closer and closer to reaching their goals.

His favorite quote is: “Most men stop when they begin to tire. Good men go until they think they are going to collapse. But the very best know the mind tires before the body and push themselves further and further beyond all limits. Only when all these limits are shattered can the unattainable be reached.”-Mark Mysynk

Paramedic/FF

Started CrossFit in 2011 the year CFB was born.  Karen was a member for three years before becoming a coach in 2014.  She joined CrossFit to become more physically fit, motivated by her new job as a firefighter paramedic she soon found much more at CFB.  Realizing it was more about investing in herself becoming not only stronger physically and mentally but improving her overall health.

Coaching at CrossFit Bangor has allowed her to help others find the strength and potential in themselves.   Her favorite part about CrossFit Bangor is not only the success people find here in fitness, but the amazing support of the community that it has created.   The friends made here are for life. Favorite lift would have to be the Snatch. A technical lift that is rewarding to watch others succeed at.  Karen loves being outdoors and will move a barbell outside any chance she gets.   Active recovery days are filled with hiking, fishing, hunting, and camping.  She also loves food and loves to cook!!!

Crossfit has improved her life in many ways; developing strength, confidence, patience, perseverance, humility and discipline.  Cherie loves cooking and when the weather is nice can be found playing in her garden. Financial Advisor

Josh joined Crossfit Bangor, in March of 2015, after almost 20 years of lifting in globo gyms.  Josh grew up playing football, basketball & baseball but his “desk job” (which he loves) and Happy Hour events had led to some pretty serious weight gain.  After one year as a member of Crossfit Bangor Josh lost 50lbs, fell in love with the community of the gym and was hooked.  Crossfit combines two of his favorite things, working out and competing.  After three years as a member, Josh decided to pursue CF-L1 to become a coach.  He looks forward to sharing his experience and helping our members get the most out of their time at Crossfit Bangor.

When Josh is not at the gym, looking for his elusive double-unders, he can be found helping people invest for the future and plan for retirement, as a Financial Advisor.

In her time at Crossfit, she has become stronger, more coordinated, and more confident in all areas of life. In addition to coaching and employment as an Occupational Therapist, Amanda is a full-time nursing student and mom to an energetic kiddo who participated in Crossfit for 9 months before making her grand entrance!

Caleb

Caleb

Cf-L1

Most of Caleb’s life has been playing sports and competing. When that all ended, he did not realize how much he needed that feeling of physically striving to get better at something. Caleb tried all kinds of workout plans and routines with the best of efforts and intentions but could never quite replicate what he missed. Enter Crossfit Bangor. Caleb joined the gym in February, 2015 after seeing the Crossfit Games being played on a TV while out at a restaurant. He immediately knew that he had found something he needed to be a part of.

Fast forward to today, Caleb is still excited by the idea of going to work out. The atmosphere at CFB is something special that cannot be replicated in any gym and he absolutely loves that there is always something he needs to get better at. His favorite style of workout is a long chipper that requires you to disappear mentally for a while. As a coach, Caleb has a passion to help people understand and overcome the psychological and mental challenges faced when they attempt to physically push themselves.

When he is not at the gym, Caleb enjoys mountain biking and watching The Office for the 100th time and is a proud father to a strong willed, 5yr old girl.
